Dr. Richard Rich has retired from practicing ophthalmology at Eye Surgeons of Indiana. He plans to move to the Bloomington area to be closer to his extended family.

His career in ophthalmology saw a commitment to excellence and innovation. He was one of the first ophthalmologists in Indiana to begin using intraocular lens implants during cataract surgery. He trained with pioneering Russian ophthalmologist Dr. Svyatoslav Fyodorov to learn radial keratotomy, a surgical procedure to correct nearsightedness. This technique was used in the 1980’s and early 1990’s prior to the development of laser vision correction. He retired from surgical practice in 2005 but continued providing general ophthalmologic services to his patients until December 2010. He will be deeply missed by his colleagues, and current and former staff, but mostly by the thousands of patients, he helped to see better.
