What Is EVO ICL?

EVO ICL is a small, biocompatible lens that is designed to correct common refractive vision problems such as nearsightedness (myopia) and astigmatism. This implantable contact lens is made from Collamer™, a collagen-based material that works in harmony with the natural eye. EVO ICL delivers sharp, high-definition vision while preserving excellent night vision quality.

The EVO ICL procedure typically takes about 10 minutes per eye and is minimally invasive. Because no corneal tissue is removed, EVO ICL is a reversible vision correction option and an ideal solution for patients who are not suitable candidates for LASIK or PRK. With over 2 million EVO ICL lenses implanted worldwide, this advanced technology offers patients exceptional, long-lasting visual clarity and safety.

Benefits of EVO ICL

Sharp, Crisp Vision

The EVO ICL lens provides high-definition vision, reducing dependence on glasses or contacts.

Excellent Night Vision

EVO ICL technology minimizes common side effects such as glare, and most patients report that their night vision remains clear and adequate for activities like driving or watching movies.

No Dry Eye Issues

Unlike some laser vision correction procedures, EVO ICL does not remove corneal tissue and, therefore, is less likely to cause dry eye syndrome.

Quick Procedure and Recovery

Many patients notice clearer, sharper vision right after the procedure, often returning to daily activities the next day with little to no downtime.

Preserves Corneal Tissue

The EVO lens works in harmony with the natural lens of the eye.

Removable by Your Doctor

While an EVO ICL seeks to provide a permanent vision upgrade, the lens can be removed or replaced if needed. This gives a level of flexibility that permanent procedures cannot.

UV Protection

Collamer material naturally filters harmful UV rays, protecting your eyes over the long term.

Who Is a Candidate for EVO ICL?

EVO ICL is ideal for patients seeking long-term vision correction who may not be suitable for laser procedures. Ideal candidates for ICL:

  • Are between 21 and 60 years old
  • Have moderate to severe nearsightedness, with or without astigmatism
  • Maintain a stable prescription for at least one year
  • Have healthy eyes with no history of glaucoma, iritis, or diabetic eye disease

Our team of experienced specialists will evaluate your eyes to ensure EVO ICL is the best solution for your vision needs.

How the EVO ICL Procedure Works

  • Pre-Operative Evaluation: A detailed eye exam ensures your eyes are healthy and ready for the procedure.
  • Lens Implantation: The EVO ICL is inserted through a tiny opening and positioned behind the iris and in front of your natural lens.
  • Immediate Vision Improvement: Many patients notice enhanced vision right after the procedure.
  • Follow-Up Care: Routine follow-ups ensure optimal lens positioning and eye health.

The EVO ICL procedure is minimally invasive, quick, reversible, and designed for patient comfort.

Can I Drive Myself Home After EVO ICL Surgery?

No, you should not drive yourself home after EVO ICL surgery. Although the procedure is outpatient and does not require an overnight stay, you will need a family member, friend, or our complimentary transportation service to take you home.

Your vision may be blurry immediately after surgery due to:

  • Dilating eyedrops
  • The normal healing process
  • Bright lights used during the procedure

Most patients experience a significant improvement in vision within the first 24 hours. Your doctor will advise you when it is safe to resume driving, usually at your 1-day postoperative checkup.

Safety and Risks

While EVO ICL is generally safe and well-tolerated, all surgical procedures carry some risk. Potential complications include:

  • Eye infection
  • Cataract formation (rare)
  • Elevated eye pressure
  • Lens rotation or displacement

Our surgeons take every precaution to minimize risks, and the lens is removable or replaceable if needed, providing peace of mind for long-term vision care.

Important Advisory Information

Because the EVO ICL improves distance vision, it does not prevent normal age-related changes in near vision. This means you may still need reading glasses at some point in your life, even if you have never used them before.

When to Avoid EVO ICL Surgery

You should not have EVO ICL surgery if your doctor determines that:

  1. The shape or structure of your eye is not suitable
  2. You have moderate to severe glaucoma
  3. Your vision is not stable
  4. You are pregnant or nursing

If you have questions or concerns, our eye care team can help you understand whether EVO ICL is right for you.

Will Others Be Able to See the EVO ICL Lens?

No. The lens is implanted inside the eye and is invisible to others.

Are There Any Alternatives to EVO ICL?

Yes. If you're not sure if EVO ICL is right for you, your eye doctor can discuss other options with you. We have several of them covered on our EVO ICL Alternatives page. It is important to get a qualified eye doctor’s input before deciding on which option is best for your vision and lifestyle.

Who Should Consider EVO ICL Over LASIK?

Patients with thin or irregular corneas, high prescriptions, or dry eye concerns may benefit more from EVO ICL than laser vision correction.
