A Deep-Clean Approach to Eye Relief

At Eye Surgeons of Indiana, we apply expert-level care to soothe dry, irritated eyes and to cleanse them deeply. Rinsada is part of our personalized dry eye strategy, helping to remove the root causes of inflammation while supporting your long-term ocular health.

What Is Biofilm, and Why Is It Inflammatory?

A biofilm is a thin, sticky layer of bacteria, dead cells, and debris that can build up on surfaces, including the eyelids and inside the Meibomian glands. In the eyes, biofilm often forms around blocked glands or along the lash line.

Biofilms are inflammatory because the immune system recognizes the bacteria and debris as foreign, triggering a defense response. This leads to the body’s release of inflammatory chemicals, which can cause redness, irritation, swelling, and further gland blockage.

Over time, biofilm can worsen Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) and contribute to chronic dry eye symptoms.

What Is Rinsada?

Rinsada is a patented irrigation device and sterile saline rinse designed specifically for the eye. Unlike traditional rinses or drops, Rinsada gently retracts the eyelids to deliver saline solution into the deep corners and folds (the conjunctival fornix), where allergens, bacteria, and inflammatory biofilm accumulate. This targeted cleaning helps reduce inflammation and reset the ocular surface for lasting symptom relief.

Why Choose Eye Surgeons of Indiana?

Our team of board-certified optometrists, ophthalmologists, and dry eye specialists brings both compassion and expertise to every treatment. We understand that true relief comes from treating underlying issues, not just temporary comfort.

With Rinsada, we can safely reach regions of the eye that most rinses and drops can't, helping clear debris and allergens. That precision, combined with our long-term care philosophy, ensures optimal outcomes and better ocular health.

How Rinsada Works Comprehensive Irrigation

The Rinsada device gently lifts your eyelids and delivers sterile saline to the palpebral conjunctiva, bulbar conjunctiva, and deep fornix (all areas inside and under the eyelid). This process flushes out trapped biofilm, bacteria, and allergens, reaching areas that ordinary eye washes miss.

Inflammation Reduction

Clinical data show that Rinsada can reduce levels of a certain inflammatory marker (the MMP-9 protein) on the ocular surface by over 70% after treatment. More than 40% of patients in early studies showed a conversion to negative MMP-9, meaning far fewer indicators of irritation.1

Long‑Lasting Relief

The deep cleaning action helps break the cycle of inflammation. Many patients report sustained comfort for three months or more after a single treatment.

A Safe, Drug‑Free, In‑Office Procedure

Rinsada is performed in our office by trained eye care professionals. There is no surgery, no anesthesia, and no systemic drugs involved. Just a gentle, effective rinse that resets the surface of your eye.

Am I a Candidate for Rinsada?

You may be a good candidate for Rinsada if:

  • You experience chronic eye irritation, itching, or burning
  • Standard lubricating drops or rinses offer only temporary relief
  • You suffer from allergies that worsen dry eye symptoms
  • You have biofilm buildup on the eyelid margin or under the lid
  • You wish to reduce inflammation and improve tear film stability

During your consultation, our team will assess your tear film, eyelid structure, and inflammation levels to determine whether Rinsada is an ideal addition to your dry eye treatment plan.

Safety and Evidence Supporting Rinsada

Rinsada is FDA-cleared as a sterile, single-use device that thoroughly irrigates the ocular surface. Clinical studies show significant reductions in inflammatory markers without harsh side effects. Because Rinsada uses a gentle saline solution with no preservatives, it's a safe, non-pharmacological option applicable to even sensitive eyes.

What to Expect During and After Treatment

  • Before Treatment: Your ophthalmologist or optometrist will carefully explain the procedure and assess your ocular surface.
  • During Treatment: The Rinsada device gently retracts the lids while delivering controlled irrigation to cleanse deep areas of the eye. Most patients feel only mild pressure or the sensation of a gentle stream of fluid.
  • After Treatment: The procedure is quick, typically just a few minutes per eye, and requires no downtime. You may experience temporary blurring or mild discomfort, but most patients can resume normal activities immediately.
  • Follow-Up: Based on your response, your doctor may recommend repeat treatments every 3–6 months to maintain ocular surface health.

Benefits You Can Look Forward To

Rinsada offers more than surface-level relief:

  • Deep cleansing of allergens, bacteria, and biofilm
  • Significant reduction in ocular inflammation
  • Better tear film stability and comfort
  • Decreased reliance on frequent eyedrops
  • A reset for your ocular surface that helps other therapies work better

Long-Term Eye Health Impact

When debris and inflammatory proteins remain trapped on the ocular surface, they can damage glands, aggravate irritation, and destabilize the tear film. Rinsada directly addresses those root causes, supporting long-term ocular health and helping protect against the potential vision damage chronic inflammation can cause.
