LASIK
What is LASIK?
LASIK is a procedure used to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. The painless procedure works by permanently reshaping the cornea.
After LASIK, patients often end up with better vision than they experienced wearing glasses or contact lenses. Imagine your eyesight being crisper, sharper, brighter, and more vibrant than you ever thought possible!

How Do I Know if I’m a Good LASIK Candidate?
At Eye Surgeons of Indiana LASIK Center, we believe that it is critical to make sure LASIK is right for you. Although most patients qualify for LASIK, about 10-15% are deemed non-candidates for this procedure. Unlike many LASIK providers, we offer alternative procedures and most likely can find a solution if this occurs. Reasons for this may include age, dry eye syndrome, or if your corneas are too thin.
You may be a good LASIK candidate if the following applies to you:
- You’re at least 18 years old
- You have a stable prescription that hasn’t changed in at least a year or more
- You’re not currently pregnant or nursing
- Your prescription is within the treatment guidelines, meaning it’s not too strong
- You and your eyes are in good health
- You have realistic expectations about what a laser vision correction procedure like LASIK can achieve
These are only some of the factors that go into determining LASIK candidacy. If you want to know if you’re a good LASIK candidate, start by scheduling your LASIK consultation at Eye Surgeons of Indiana LASIK Center!
What are the Benefits of LASIK?
Easier Daily Routine
Glasses and contacts, while great for improving vision, each come with hassles that can make it frustrating to deal with on a day-to-day basis. Instead of scrambling for your glasses on your bedside table when trying to rush out of the house or realizing you’ve run out of contacts on a day filled with meetings, you can confidently and seamlessly go throughout your day with crisp, clear vision after LASIK.
You also won’t need to worry about cleaning your glasses and contacts or making trips to the store to restock on supplies like solution and cleaning wipes, saving you valuable time and energy.
Enhances Active Lifestyles
Visual aids can be especially distracting when it comes to sports and physical activities. It can be challenging to stay on top of your game when your glasses are sliding down your face or focus on your run when your contacts are drying out in the wind.
After LASIK, patients not only enjoy freedom from these hassles but also advantages like enhanced depth perception and a wider visual field, enabling you to better your performance.
Quick Recovery Times
Although LASIK is a surgical procedure, it doesn’t warrant long recovery times. Most patients are cleared to return to work and drive the day after LASIK, making it an ideal choice for individuals with busy lifestyles.
Saves You Money
While LASIK has a higher upfront cost, most patients actually save money over time by choosing vision correction over glasses and contacts. Instead of constantly paying the recurring costs of visual aids, repairs, cases, solutions, and supplies, you can pay a one-time fee with LASIK, which can offer you lasting freedom from glasses and contacts.
You can also make use of financing options like CareCredit to help fit LASIK easily into your monthly budget.
What to Know Before Your LASIK Procedure
Before undergoing LASIK, you will attend a comprehensive consultation with your eye doctor at Eye Surgeons of Indiana to ensure you’re a good candidate for the procedure. At this appointment, you’ll also have the opportunity to ask any questions you have about the procedure process and recovery to help you prepare.
You’ll need to organize transportation to and from the procedure, as well as to and from your first follow-up appointment, as you won’t be able to drive until your eye doctor clears you. To help your recovery go smoother, you can do things like:
- Preparing meals ahead of time so you won’t need to be on your feet in the kitchen
- Downloading podcasts, music, or audiobooks to listen to while your eyes heal
- Creating a comfortable place for yourself to rest once you get out of surgery
- Ensuring any prescriptions you may need are picked up before the procedure
What Can I Expect after LASIK Surgery?
After LASIK, you’ll need to have someone drive you home so you can rest. You may feel some mild irritation, burning, or watery eyes for around thirty minutes after the procedure. It’s best to relax during this time and take a nap for around three to four hours. Patients often wake up feeling much better and notice an improvement in their vision already.
Your LASIK surgeon will ask you to take certain precautions after the procedure, such as:
- Using prescription eye drops to reduce inflammation and prevent infection
- Wearing an eye shield while you sleep for one week after LASIK
- Not wearing eye makeup for one week
- Not swimming or using a hot tub for one week
- Avoiding dirty environments for one week
- Not rubbing your eyes for one month
- Refraining from strenuous exercise until cleared by your eye doctor
LASIK Technology
At Eye Surgeons of Indiana, we use the Alcon Refractive Suite, the fastest and most technologically advanced laser system in The United States. The Wavelight FS200 femtosecond laser creates a customized and precise corneal flap. The Wavelight EX500 excimer laser is then gently applied to remove a precise amount of tissue from the cornea. The flap is then placed back down, where it’s left to heal on its own.
Can Medical Savings Accounts Help Pay for LASIK?
Employers usually sponsor Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). LASIK is typically covered under these plans, among other vision correction procedures. Patients participating in Flexible Spending Accounts or Health Savings Accounts are able to set aside tax-free funds from their earnings for Vision Correction Procedures, such as LASIK. A maximum contribution of $2,750 is allowed per year for FSAs.
Are There LASIK Payment Plans?
Yes, we have available payment plans through Care Credit.
Individual credit ratings will determine the interest rates. There are also short-term payment plans available that are interest free. If you’re interested in learning more about LASIK payment plans, contact our office today to learn more about our financing options.
